At Pine Haven Christian Communities, our mission is to provide a Christ-centered, safe, and comfortable environment for our senior residents. As a Christ-centered senior living community, we believe in providing opportunities for our residents to engage with one another and their families.
That is why we are excited about this year's Annual Appeal, benefiting our life enrichment department. This particular focus allows us to expand our life enrichment offerings and enhance the quality of life of our residents.
Our life enrichment department provides various activities and programs to help our residents stay active and engaged. From fitness classes and educational workshops to social events and entertainment programs, we strive to offer something for everyone. But we need your help to continue providing the necessary tools and entertainment to make these programs possible.
According to Martina Wessells, Life Enrichment Manager, "The annual appeal campaign allows us to expand our life enrichment offerings to enhance our residents’ quality of life. These activities and initiatives go beyond the on-campus offerings. They include engaging residents with their families and allowing their families to communicate with their loved ones that are living in our communities."
Improving the Well-Being of Older Adults
Support through the Annual Appeal will help us provide a wide range of activities and initiatives that enrich the lives of our residents. But the benefits of your support go beyond just providing fun and engaging activities. Participating in these programs can also help improve cognitive function, reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, and promote overall physical and emotional well-being.
According to the National Institute on Aging, participating in activities that increase social engagement and improve skills can enhance cognition and overall happiness. Engaging in such activities can help keep the mind active and stimulate the growth of new brain cells, improving cognitive function.
Research has also shown that older adults who engage in activities that challenge their minds, such as learning new skills and hobbies, can improve their memory function. For instance, a study found that older adults who learned how to quilt or take digital photographs had better memory improvement than those who only engaged in social activities or pursued less cognitively demanding activities.
Enhancing Life Enrichment at Pine Haven
The support will help us enhance communication and create more engagement opportunities within our life enrichment department. It will help us give more residents access to content-driven engagement tools like our iN2L computers. The iN2L computers are easy-to-use technology and have a wide range of engaging content. It will also help us provide unique entertainment like impersonators, magicians, and animal programs which are always popular with our residents.
Denise Walter, the Life Enrichment Coordinator, added, "We are grateful for the additional programming efforts we can offer through the Annual Appeal. We take pride in providing multiple activities every day in our programs. These dollars will allow us to continue delivering a high level of services and assist us in supplying technology to support communication between residents and their families."
